Geon Young

“I am the only child in the family, therefore when I decided to leave for Toronto my mom was upset but she still supported my decision. She’s just worried about my appetite and my safety in the city.”

You can always take the subway to Christie or Finch station for the most authentic Korean food in Toronto.

Did you grow up speaking English at home?

“No, no one else does in my family. Dr. Seuss was my favorite writer growing up, I learned how to read and speak English from it. I know that I need to get better at English because I want to watch more English TVs. And of course to understand what my teachers are talking about in class.”

How about accommodation, have you found a place to live and someone you can reach out to?

“I am renting an apartment with a roommate that I haven’t met in person, we found other online. He is from another country also new to Canada. Hopefully he is a nice person.”

Note: Geon Young is extremely friendly and authentic, he is willing to smile and share to a stranger in a brand new country. I thanked him for his time and wish him good luck from the bottom of my heart. I hope this short encounter will lift his spirit up just for a little bit and if our paths ever cross again, I hope to see him smile again, like he does so beautifully in his 20s.
