Check out this very old quote about depicting God as, basically, a generous pub-owner. Does it work for you? Could this be what God is like? Is God at-the-ready for you with his savory goodness, eager to bring you your fill?

So doth God almighty to his lovers in contemplation as a taverner that hath good wine to sell doth to good drinkers…he taketh them to house and giveth them a taste. Soon when they have tasted thereof, and they think the drink good and greatly to their pleasure, then they drink day and night and the more they drink, the more they want. Such liking they have of that drink that of none other wine they think, but only for to drink their fill and to have of this drink all their will.

An even older song sung by the people of the Bible, the Israelites, when they would pray and sing together, gives us God’s own words: “If my people would only listen to me…they would be fed with the finest of wheat, with honey from the rock I would satisfy you!”

What if God is that good? What if it’s that simple?
