I disagree. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say the President can’t pardon himself (or herself). It is true that the founding fathers believed in many basic principles such as no one can be a judge in his own case but the Constitution does not say that. If people want the Constitution to say that, then get three quarters of the states to change the Constitution. The Constitution should not change based on reading between the lines of the text while ignoring the text itself. I think our Founding Fathers knew full well that impeachment could be a political process and so they made a way for the President to at least avoid jail for political reasons as opposed to criminal ones. That being said, I think it is very likely that President Trump committed obstruction of justice but so did Hillary Clinton and she wasn’t prosecuted. It also protects against selective prosecution, which this would be since Hillary Clinton was never charged with obstruction of justice. She destroyed evidence (or her staff did but I’m sure she gave the instructions verbally so it can’t be discoverable).
