Edit: Whoops, I did misread Megan’s article.
Herb Greengarden

What’s infuriating isn’t getting help. The author even calls that out specifically. There’s nothing wrong and nothing shameful with getting parental help if it’s available.

What’s infuriating is that many times, these articles are posed as “it’s really easy to buy a home when you’re young, I did it by myself with a only $50k salary” and then five paragraphs down, they mention a parental gift without saying how much it actually was, but you can run the numbers and figure out it’s usually $50,000-$100k.

The shame isn’t from getting the money. The shame is from thinking your (the article’s subjects’) situation merits an article that many times comes with the attitude like “if I could do it, why can’t you?”
