The Scott Joplin House, now a State Historic Site is located at 2658 Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri. This was the residence of composer, Scott Joplin, from 1901 to 1903.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources maintains the house as well as its surroundings. On December 8, 1976, this house was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was also designated as a U.S. National Historic Landmark.

Located west of downtown St. Louis, this two-story T-shaped brick house sits near the southeast corner of Delmar Boulevard and North Beaumont Street.

It’s believed the house was constructed around 1860. During that time frame, it represented an ordinary rowhouse. This home is important because it’s the only known surviving residence linked to African-American composer, Scott Joplin.

One of his best-known pieces is The Entertainer which brought attention to Joplin 56 years after he died. It was used as the theme music for the 1973 film, The Sting. Visit here to listen to the difficult and famous ragtime piece.
