I have an ethical landlord. I have not had a rent increase in over 5 years of living here and rents are about 60% of the average market price. During the time that I’ve been here, there have been two no-cause evictions, both for serious property damage to the units. Our landlords report that they meet their costs through rents, while providing us nearly an acre to farm, close-in in Portland. When landlords claim that they have increasing costs, this is frequently because they bought property at inflated prices with the intent of charging more, or because they made upgrades to justify charging more. I’m sure we’ll get no apologies; all I have to say to them is SHAME.
