Living in the Near Future
Dreaming big once again
Up until a few years ago I firmly believed that the world’s hopes and dreams of a Future didn’t excist. Big promises of internet and technology didn’t come true; for example the connected home and Big Data. I suspect it had something to do with the bleak shadow cast by the financial downturn. Popular culture turned inwards — drone, symbolism and mysticism took over — exploring our inner secrets. The gravity of the deep and dark space started pulling, we looked upwards and suddenly we started dreaming again. Space tourism is a reality. Electric cars are a reality. So is the connected home and (proper) handling of Big Data. Open source housing is coming and food tech is growing, churning out new products healthy for the environment and human. If the financial downturn was the call for a cleanse, today is the cleanse… at least when it comes to a small share of consumer products. The hopes and dreams of a Future has never been so real, we’re living in it.
