Friday Morning

Monday and Friday mornings are my favorite mornings to write, since I’ve started my daily writing habit. Writing on Monday morning, before the week starts rolling, is something I really look forward to when getting out of bed to start the week. It’s a far cry from having to get out of bed very early on Mondays to catch a plane or a train when I was traveling a lot for work.

That weekly travel used to be tough, especially Sunday afternoon, when I started to sense the weekend ending and having to make preparations, at least mentally, to wake up early and head to a train station or security line in an airport. Instead, waking up to walk the dog before having the luxury of some time to sit and write feels great and I feel fortunate to have a schedule that allows for it. Now I can enjoy all of Sunday and actually look forward to getting Monday started so that I can sit and write. This is a surprising benefit of the daily writing habit that I would have never anticipated.

I experienced the same positive anticipation this Friday morning. I began to look forward to having this time to write in the morning, to begin to simultaneously close down the week and begin the weekend in a good way. While there’s still a full day of work ahead, using this time as a marker to start to think about the weekend seems like a good way to get the weekend rolling earlier and possibly even extend it a bit. I enjoyed the anticipation of writing this morning as I walked the dog through my neighborhood as it was still waking up, a rare time of peace and quiet that I really enjoy here.
