Remembering Why I Write

Back to Free Form Fridays to remind myself why I write.

A while ago I adopted the concept of Free Form Fridays for Just Rolling With It. I did this as a reminder to myself of the original purpose of this blog. That purpose was and still is to act as a free form forum for me to write and explore ideas, without trying to get everything “just right”. Over time, themes have emerged on Just Rolling With It that I’m beginning to explore. While I’m glad this is happening, I also find it imposing a structure that, if I’m not careful, may overwhelm the original idea of the free form forum.

I’m aware that this structure can easily take over if I’m not mindful of it, because I tend to have a sometimes overwhelming tendency toward order, structure, and control. The idea of the free form forum was and is to give me something, somewhere, to safely resist this tendency and explore ways to do things easier and better outside of it.

Finishing a post earlier this week was also a reminder to me of the benefits of writing on a regular basis. Writing for Just Rolling With It provides me with a forum to get ideas out of my head, first and foremost. This, in and of itself, provides a sense of release and relief, particularly because I do feel like there are so many thoughts and ideas swirling around up there at any one time, I need some form of constructive pressure release valve for them. Writing this blog provides that release.

Secondly, writing this blog provides me with an opportunity to connect with a broader community, allowing me a sense of connectedness that is becoming more and more important to me, as I become more aware of the value of connectedness and interconnection. This is really a new concept to me and one that I’m guessing is pretty obvious to a lot of people, either innately or through learned behavior. It’s one of the concepts I’m most excited about experiencing and exploring that’s emerged through some of the work I’m doing to make healthy and positive changes in my life.

My hope is that this blog helps me to connect with others whose interests overlap with mine in some areas and don’t in others, providing me with a richer mix of perspectives to engage with and consider. I’m hoping it helps me connect with people I can learn from and people who may also benefit and learn from the experiences I am sharing, related to my journey down a path, guided by a search for increased health and well-being, with a destination that’s not quite clear to me right now and and that continues to evolve and reveal itself to me, moment-by-moment.

These are the two main benefits of writing that I’m aware of at the moment. I’m glad I took some time to hit the reset button, to remind myself why I’m doing this. If nothing else, writing this post gives me an opportunity to recenter and catch my breath, after 9 months of writing, before I jump back into Just Rolling With It…and to thank you for being along for the ride…!
