Rolling into an intimidating week…

On Friday I wrote about having trouble slowing it down transitioning into the weekend. I think one reason for that is that this upcoming week looks pretty intimidating. The wall of responsibilities that needs to be tackled before heading on vacation on Saturday looks pretty tall, think, and solid. If I visualize it, the wall looks like it’s made from large and solid grey stone blocks, neatly stacked on top of each other, to form a wall that’s wider and taller than my field of vision.

That’s what it seems like I’m up against this week.

The weekend rolled by really fast, largely due to a quick trip out of town that my wife and took. I think it would’ve been nice to have some down time to recharge, in preparation for the week, however that wasn’t in the cards this time around.

I was fortunate to get a solid night sleep and woke up feeling pretty rested, which will go a long way toward attacking this wall of responsibilities and head on and on the right foot. As I’ve written about before, I’m really beginning to learn the value of rest. Along those lines, being well rested throughout the week is one of my key strategies to make it through this week, while maintining stress at manageable levels.

The week itself includes one big deadline, along with my usual set of work responsibilities. Throw on top of that the fact that taxes are due in a week and there’s that wall I’m seeing, feeling, and talking about here. Even though I’ve been keeping up with taxes, both business and personal, while filing extensions for April 15 deadline, there are a bunch of loose ends that need to be addressed, before I leave for vacation. It seems like tax deadlines are constantly falling on the same dates we’re on vacation, which can quickly screw up a vacation! So that’s why it’s important to me to wrap up taxes, at least for the upcoming deadline, this week.

I thought that writing about the week would increase my awareness going into the week, helping me manage the related stress I have been feeling since yesterday. It seems to have helped, at least a bit. Now it’s time to get off to it!
