Sun and the East River
My wife and I feel very fortunate to have a nice view of the East River from our apartment that includes the Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Bridges, as well as a piece of the Manhattan skyline that includes the Freedom Tower. The land outside of our window is mostly undeveloped, at least for now. I’d imagine sooner or later a building taller than ours may go up outside of our windows. I hope that happens much later than sooner!
Until then, I’ll continue to really enjoy the sunsets. The sun sets in different places at different times of the year. As the year begins, it sets over the Williamsburg bridge, toward the Brooklyn side. As the year progresses, it gradually moves to set over the Manhattan skyline. It’s recently been setting over the Manhattan skyline between the end of the Williamsbug Bridge and the Freedom Tower.
Regardless of the time of year, the color spectrum of the sky just before, during, and after the sun sets amazes me on almost a daily basis. The spectrums may be similar or may be different, however each one is extremely vivid, distinct and unique in its own way. Some sunsets may be dominated by greens and blues and others by reds, oranges and yellows. The patterns formed by the clouds in the sky can sometimes add another layer of beautiful complexity to the scene.
I really enjoy taking pictures of the sunsets from my window. I use my iPhone and take the pictures through the double paine glass of the window itself. In addition to enjoying the spectacular natural beauty and being amazed by the colors that only nature can produce, I also find that it’s a nice way to mark at least the beginning of my process to wind down the work day.
I post the pictures I take here, http://cjremus.tumblr.com. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
