Why Australia is to be worried about
The United States Men’s basketball team tightly won against Australia 98–88. This was easily the closest game they have played so far. The United States won, but I think there is more to it than just the outcome of the game. Australia is led by NBA players Pattie Mills of the San Antonio Spurs, Matthew Dellavedova of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Andrew Bogut of the Dallas Mavericks. These are not superstar NBA players, but they play tough and they play really hard. Mills is a good shooter at 39% from downtown, Dellavedova is a scrappy guard as was seen two finals ago, and Bogut is a shot blocker, rebounder, and while also being able to score. They were able to carry Australia to a 54–49 lead at halftime and if Carmelo Anthony had not caught fire down the stretch for Team USA the score could have been much different. Anthony scored at one point in time ten consecutive points for Team USA. This is troubling that a team full of superstars had to come back against a team made up of NBA reserves. I believe this was a preview of the gold medal game and if Team USA does not bring it full force they could be in trouble.
