More likely than not you’ve had a hard time keeping your work enthusiasm at a 10 throughout your day. You’re not alone. With all of the demands in our hectic lives, we often just shove our health and bodies to the bottom of our importance list. Your body is your motor, and just like a car, fuel is what makes it work. When we neglect our brain and body, our performance depletes.

Whether it be eating the right foods, giving yourself a break, or exercising your brain and body, these all play factors in your workplace performance and overall health. Fear no more, we are here to give you a few workplace tips to add to your work routine that will help you improve your alertness and performance:

1. Get up and walk around.

With all the hard work you’re doing, your brain needs a break. Breaks can help refresh your mind, and walking around refreshes your muscles and gets your blood circulating. Rather than a usual break of getting online and checking your Instagram or Twitter feed, go outside and enjoy a couple minutes of fresh air. Go grab a snack, coffee, or just give your coworkers a friendly hello! Encourage them to join you. You will notice a difference in the workplace energy!

2. Have a snack to chew on.

A professor of mine once told me chewing gum will keep me from falling asleep or losing focus. For some that may work. But if you’re like me, I need something a little more solid. I pack snacks in advance for work, and I stay attentive during the times that I’m usually struggling to stay awake. Having something like vegetables or nuts will wake your body up and keep you awake and going.

3. Stretches and easy exercises.

Also good for blood flow is stretching or easy exercises. Doing something as easy as stretching your arms and legs or doing 20 jumping jacks will get your blood moving and your mind rejuvenated. My favorite movements are jumping jacks and jogging in place…or to my coworker across the room! What are some exercises that are simple that you like doing?
