Olivier Rousteing: Orphanage to Balmain

Olivier Rousteing had quite an interesting upbringing to say the least. Born in Bordeaux, France to parents who were unfortunately unable to care for him, Rousteing arrived at an orphanage at just seven days old. He was adopted five months later. His adoptive parents were a young Caucasian couple looking to start a family. His mother had been diagnosed with cancer at a young age and was unable to have children. Upon seeing Olivier they instantly fell in love. Despite the fact they faced a large amount of scrutiny for adopting an African American child, they made sure Olivier felt like he had always been a part of their family. His father had come from a long line of boulangers so they were pretty wealthy. Rousteing attended the best private schools and although his parents expected him to be a mathematician, he took his inspiration from his grandmother, Suzelle. Suzelle had the best fashion sense and had no regard for age. She enjoyed going clubbing with Olivier and his friends at age 60. An avid collector of Chanel pearls and known for always attending the best operas, Rousteing credits his grandmother for sparking his interest in fashion design. By the time he began high school, Rousteing had decided to fully pursue fashion. He was ridiculed and called “gay” but remained steady in his dreams. Rousteing now designs for Hollywood elite including the Kardashians and Rihanna. He has built a fashionable army called Balmaination. This ‘army’ includes Jordan Dunn, Kendall Jenner, and even Naomi Campbell just to name a few. Kim Kardashian can usually be seen in Balmain whether she is on the red carpet or enjoying quality time with North and Saint. She was recently seen at Rousteing’s Spring 2017 show wearing one of his ostentatious designs, a loosely threaded dress. Whether she had anything on underneath is debatable but Rousteing can always count on her to wear anything he designs.
