Summer Picnics

Our Favourite Picnic Spots

I love taking the kids for a picnic, they absolutely love the novelty of eating outside and best of all you don’t have to worry about all the crumbs!

I bought a basic picnic back pack last summer from Sainsburys, along with some ice packs and plastic plates, and it was the best thing I bought last year, we’ve used it loads!

Here are our favourite Cambridgeshire picnic spots:

1. The first has got to be @AngleseyAbbeyNT the gardens are so beautiful, there are loads of spots and you can even nab yourself a deck chair if you’re lucky!

2. Wandlebury Country Park is also a firm favourite. The kids love hunting out the Highland Cattle. I always find it quite amusing to see them.

3. I love being by water so Milton Country Park is a great spot. The new cafe makes it even better as you can just take your picnic blanket and by your sandwiches and cakes there. They do great gelato!

4. Cambridge University Botanic Garden is in full bloom now. It’s a great place if you’re in the city for the day to head for some peace and quiet. It’s nice and safe too for the kids to run around.

5. If you aren’t too nervous about the kids by water then Jesus Green or Midsummer Common are lovely spots in Cambridge. Great for watching the boats and punters go by.

6. We are frequent visitors to Wimpole Estate NT and eating in Home Farm keeps everything nice and enclosed. That’s if you can get the kids off the ride on tractors!

7. Ashwell Springs in Herrfordshire, a beautiful shady spot complete with spring for paddling toes. Beware the water is cold, but the kids don’t seem to mind, pack something like wellies just incase.

8. The last place is our garden! The kids get just as excited about having a picnic at home! Nice and easy especially if you have people coming over with their kids too. Always a winner!
