I wrote this bio to accompany a poem I’ve written called Milkweed, which will imminently arrive in the world within the printed confines of a budding publication called Daughter, later this month. I place the bio here, oddly written in the third person, as an introduction, an invitation to myself to properly saunter into this writing space of Medium.

Informed by her lens as a practicing nurse and dancer, Claire reads with a desire to learn and writes with a desire to live. The point of writing (and reading) feels like: pausing, like staying present enough to notice; like slowing down to see something and letting that process exist powerfully enough to count as care and movement toward something. A practicing witch, Claire writes as if casting a spell — that is, with an intent to alchemize an experience, a question or a concern. This alchemy lends itself to action or some change within. Though young in her writing accolades, over the past 5 years Claire independently wrote and produced a multi-faceted podcast called “what the hell is up”. Interviewing musicians, artists and inspired folks rooted in a vision to foster change in their communities, each podcast episode interwove music and analysis of existing art to create a symbiosis of new pieces. After soaking up heaps of inspiration and obsessing over curating a lovingly made podcast, Claire now finds herself focusing on writing sans-audio. With her sights set on essay-writing, poems and spellcasting, she aims to explore the heart of nursing care, art itself, the experience of seeking out justice and the making of beauty, through words while actualizing several ideas for longer form pieces.
