The evolutionary needs for hair have long become obsolete, but the aesthetic benefits of great hair remain.

If you have naturally good hair and plenty of it you must find ways to maintain it. If your hair isn’t all that good you may need to help it out so you have good hair days more often. One of the best ways to help your head of hair is by eating right and eating well. The following is a list of foods you can eat for better hair and more hair, unless alopecia has begun to run its course.

The one thing that takes an inevitable toll on your hair is age. The long term effects of free radicals changes your hair quality for the worse. You can eat foods like salmon, which have Omega 3 fatty acids, which act as antioxidants and stem the ageing effects of free radicals. As a commonly found healthy fish it is easy to get and cook salmon in a variety of different ways. Steam, smoke, bake or grill your salmon and make deliciously healthy fixes for your hair.

Dark green veggies like spinach and broccoli contain Vitamins A and C both of which are needed if the body is to produce good quality sebum. Sebum is the oily substance that nourishes and protects your skin, including your scalp. While these veggies may not be as tasty as some meats on the market, they have been known to be used in some great preparations.

Legumes are great because they have protein and protein is great for hair, mainly because hair is itself a protein creation, there can be no hair without protein.

Another important nutrient for hair is selenium. Some shampoos famously extract selenium and use them in their formulae too. One of the best sources of selenium are walnuts. While it may not be advisable to eat too much chocolate walnut brownies for your hair, eating a handful of walnuts daily may work wonders.

Finally, when in doubt eat an avocado. Avocados aren’t called a superfood for nothing. They contain 25 nutrients that are great for you in a million ways. But the Vitamin E in avocados is especially beneficial for good shiny hair. You can either eat the avocado in the form of avocado on toast or you can apply avocado to your hair and let it stay for a while before washing it off, and Voila! you’ve got better hair in a matter of minutes.
