Injuries are very often a common eventuality when it comes to playing sports. It’s easy to bounce back from a minor injury. However, certain injuries of a more serious nature can have a prolonged recovery period. Hence, its best to take preventive measures to avoid being injured while playing sports.

Here are six such measures that you can take:

  1. Follow the Rules of the Game: The rules of any sport are usually tailored to help the players avoid any serious injury. So it’s best to follow the rules to the T when you’re participating in any sport — especially one where the risk of injury is very high.
  2. Keep Yourself in Form: If you regularly play sports, you must ensure that you are always in proper shape. If any specific training regime is prescribed for players of a particular sport, be sure to follow it. Many of these regimes include workouts that aim to strengthen your muscles, making you less prone to serious injury.
  3. Always Warm Up: Be sure to follow a proper warm-up routine before any sport. Warm-ups often include stretches and flexibility exercises that better prepare your body for the game, and reduce your risk of injury. Moreover, warm-ups like quick rope jumping and squats boost your endurance, making you further resilient.
  4. Wear Safety Equipment: Almost every sport involves some kind of safety equipment to reduce the risk of injury. Protective pads, gloves, helmets, mouth guards etc. are some of the equipment commonly used in sports. Ensure that you only use good quality equipment.
  5. Get Enough Rest: Rest is a crucial part of any player’s routine. People who rest properly have been found to be less prone to sports injuries. Adequate rest can reduce fatigue and help you regain stamina.
  6. Do Not Play When You’re Tired (or in Pain): Be sure to take a break if you ever feel fatigued or in pain. Also, if you sustain an injury while playing, leave the game immediately and get first-aid.

Of course, even with these preventive measures, you can’t be 100% certain that you won’t sustain an injury. So to prepare for that eventuality, do ensure that you take good injury insurance!
