Flaxseed has been moving up the health food rankings for a while now.

Flaxseed offers many health benefits, let’s look at some of the most important ones.

  • It is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids, which is classified as ‘good’ fat. It helps lower cholesterol in the body and improve the health of the overall cardiovascular system. In the long run it also reduces blood pressure, making it a superfood for your heart.
  • It contains both, soluble and insoluble, fibers. The soluble fibers are a healthy source of carbs and the insoluble fibers regulate the digestive system.
  • Lignans present in flaxseed play a crucial role in balancing hormones in both males and females. In Females lignans help balance estrogen levels and in males lignans help balance testosterone. This also helps patients suffering from Type 2 diabetes by improving blood sugar levels.
  • Antioxidants in flaxseed work to prevent signs of aging and cell decay in your whole body. Taking antioxidants in the form of supplements is often seen as a magic bullet, but that can also be dangerous. Antioxidants should always be consumed mixed in with other nutrients as part of a wholesome diet.
  • Flaxseed also helps reduce risks related to colon, breast and prostate cancer.

Flaxseed is a generally neutral tasting food and can be added to various food preparations and beverages like smoothies.
