The Straw Hat Pirates have, once again, taken the world by storm with the new Netflix live-action adaptation. I thought it would be a fun exercise to write an astrological profile for the beloved fictional hero of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy.

Fortunately, in addition to watching the live action, I’ve also read the manga (and I’m a big fan of it). Therefore, I’m quite familiar with each and every character, their personalities, and personal development.

In this post, I will focus more on the personal planets, which define more of someone’s personality.

For those who have never read the manga before, there may be subtle spoilers. Let’s get started!

Sun Sign

Monkey D. Luffy was born on May 5 according to Oda sensei, which makes his sun sign Taurus, providing a good starting point for us to work with.

Taurus is known for its stubbornness. If you’ve read the manga, you’re likely familiar with how stubborn Luffy can be in pursuing his dream of becoming the Pirate King. He defies his grandfather’s wishes in many ways, even going so far as to cut his cheek to prove a point to his hero, Shanks.

Despite this stubbornness, Luffy is also known for his loyalty and dependability as a captain, traits commonly associated with Taurus.

Taurus is also strongly associated with food, and Luffy’s deep love for meat and food is a perfect example.

Rising Sign

The rising sign has a lot to do with one’s first impression and physical appearance. This can be tricky since Luffy is a fictional character.

Luffy’s initial impression is that of a child bursting with energy and optimism, more often than not diving headfirst into something without thinking twice.

With this description, I would say that his rising sign is definitely a fire sign. My best guess would be that Luffy is an Aries rising.

Aries rising individuals are most likely to come across as energetic, often bringing an enthusiastic, dynamic, and fun-loving approach to new experiences. There’s also a certain recklessness and impulsiveness to them.

Moon Sign

Right away, I can tell that his moon sign is Sagittarius.

Luffy possesses an expansive and adventurous heart; he is a happy-go-lucky guy with a very optimistic outlook on life, despite all that has happened. These are all traits of a Sagittarius.

Do I need to say more?

Mars Sign

Definitely Aries.

Luffy never hesitates when it comes to fighting, and he actually thrives in competition. He also possesses this animal instinct when it comes to fighting, something deeply embedded in someone with Mars in Aries. They are born fighters and are fearless.

Luffy can also be hot-headed, another clear sign of Mars in Aries. Since his Sun is in Taurus, he is able to retain some sense of self-control and reserve himself.

Mercury Sign

Luffy is straightforward in his manner of speaking. At one point, it appears that he can be tactless to the point that he gets kicked around by Nami and scolded by others. He also makes lightning-quick decisions; sometimes, it even seems like he doesn’t think things through.

I think it is quite clear that yet another of his personal planets is in the sign of fiery Aries.

Venus Sign

This took me some time to figure out.

When we talk about Venus, we instantly connect it to art and romance — two words that are probably not in Luffy’s dictionary.

However, Venus also rules our sentiments and what we value. Looking at it from this perspective clears up the fog.

Luffy values his friends and his crew. He is very protective of them, a clear sign of Venus in Cancer.

People with Venus in Cancer have big hearts and are able to create a family-like feeling among their friends, something that Luffy managed to create within the Straw Hat Pirates’ crew, despite all their differences.

Jupiter Sign

Jupiter is a planet that reveals how we express our generosity and tolerance. It also indicates our luck, expansion and growth.

I was torn between two options when deciding on Luffy’s Jupiter sign.

He definitely displays the qualities of the fire element, showing traits of both Jupiter in Leo and Sagittarius. However, after further deliberation, I have concluded that his Jupiter is most likely in Leo.

Leo is the second fire sign after Aries and is fixed fire, which means they are stable and have no trouble sustaining attention. By no means, Luffy is indeed the main character.

This Jupiter placement is generous with others, inspires confidence in those around them, conducts themselves with dignity and sincerity. Their nature is to experience life as an adventure and bring more play into life, all while maintaining a strong ambition to succeed and be a leader.

Isn’t this a perfect description of who Luffy is?

What do you think?

I would love to hear your thoughts! Especially, if you are a fan who have been following this manga for decades.

Ps. If Oda Sensei (or Inaki Godoy, or even the producers) read this, do give me some shout out. Lol.

Until next time!
