【英文謬誤】- 拒絕還是婉拒？

拒絕是一門藝術，如果不懂婉拒，始終逆來順受只會不斷消磨自己的意志。Deny, reject, refuse, decline這幾個字都有拒絕的意思，不過還是有一些細微的差別。

1. deny這個字，否定意味最強烈，和其他三個最不同，表示否定原本的不正確的事情，或是很果斷地拒絕（誰）做什麼。

deny有3個基本用法：
deny+Ving 否定；否認
deny+sb.+to V. 拒絕…給予；拒絕…的要求
deny+that+子句 拒絕…

E.g. The employer denied his employee the permission to take a day off.
僱主拒絕讓他的員工請一天假。

2. refuse這個字意思是指你不會去做某件事情。

E.g. Sam refused to pay the bill.
Sam婉拒付帳單。
refuse也有拒絕接受的意思。
E.g. He refused their invitation this Sunday.
他不接受他們禮拜天的邀約。

reject和refuse很像，但常用在公務上退件、拒絕接受（申請、企劃書、提案等）。

如果是人被reject，就是被排斥、排擠的意思。

E.g. Howard used to be rejected by his classmates because of his accent.
Howard過去因為他的口音被他的同學排擠。

3. decline是相對來說比較正式的一個字，婉拒，也比較有禮貌。

E.g. Our CEO declined the offer from Facebook’s founder.
我們的執行長婉拒了Facebook創辦人給的職缺。

decline除了婉拒之外，還有（銷售量）消退、（數字）下滑的意思。
E.g. According to the chart, the likes on the fan page is declining.
根據圖表，粉絲頁的讚數在下滑。
