Mark Huberty & Clare Corthell, Lyft Mapping

Roads to the new terminal at LaGuardia Airport opened in July 2020, evidenced by aggregate Lyft traffic (left). OpenStreetMap data had been updated (right) shortly after opening, faster than many other maps.

Lyft Mapping study shows crucial OpenStreetMap road attributes are fresh and high quality in 30 North American cities, as compared to groundtruth.

Lyft moves people — from home to work, work to play, play to rest, through cities and beyond. Maps play a…

Action: Shop at only local women-owned (and minority-owned) businesses on International Women’s Day 2017.

Anyone, anywhere, can join by making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, in one or all of the following ways:

  1. Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor
  2. Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses).
  3. Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman

Answer? Absolutely. Now I want to share what I did.

I created the Open Source Data Science Masters, a forkable and community-owned DIY curriculum.

For me, the profession makes perfect sense — Data Science marries technical systems, human behavioral questions, and a beautiful world of mathematics and statistics.

You should do it, too!

Hackathon 10/2012 - Corthell

The strange ruing of Civic Hackathons

Amongst the politicians and technorati, we’ve spawned a strange argument about whether civic hackathons are “stupid.

But now apps contests are not just overdone – there are just so many of them – but actually are becoming counterproductive, turning off developers and governments. In fact, they are stupid.

Let’s side-step…
