Happy 6 Months to California & I! ❤

I have officially lived in Long Beach for 6 months!

A lot has happened in that time.

Finding work proved to be stressful, and eye-opening. After applying for literally hundreds of positions, and trying to find something local that I believed in, I wound up landing a pretty sweet gig in Hollywood — a commute that I do not love, or recommend. Each day that my shift begins at 1pm, I leave the house around 10:40am to catch a bus, to ride a train, to transfer trains, to walk up hill to work. It’s stressful and draining, but the destination is a back of house position, at The Hollywood Bowl, under Susane Goin (who is kind of a big deal.) I have been learning a lot about food, and have been loving the fast-paced circus that is fine dining in Hollywood.

Sinking my baby claws into the world of comedy here has been enjoyable, though due to my work schedule and commute, it’s not something I have been able to participate in much in the last couple of months. I try to get to a mic, or catch a show from time to time, whenever I am able.

My boyfriend Cheya and I have been working on our podcast, however, which has been growing into quite the fun little monster! We’re on episode 25, already! It’s actually strange to imagine that we could be wrapping that up, for the time being, in just a few months (as it follows the life and career of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, and we’ve already made it to 2007!) We have other endeavors in the works, which is very exciting!

Oliver seems to be very happy in his Long Beach home, though he have been dealing with fleas, and he seems to have had more tummy/hairball issues since we’ve moved here (which is probably just coincidence or due to the weather. [Do cats groom more when they’re warm? lol.])

I’m still working on building a nice foundation of friends, but have been able to enjoy some of the Long Beach, LA and Hollywood nightlife with some cool folks. There’s still a huge part of me that misses my WI fam, but that’s to be expected.

All in all, the last 6 months have kind of flown by. I’m excited to see what the next 6 will bring! ❤
