I am reminded of Robert Putnam, the liberal Oxford- and Yale-educated political scientist, whose research revealed how destructive racial diversity as been to the fabric of American society. He was so disturbed by the results of his own research that he sat on it for decades and wouldn’t discuss it. Reality so totally contradicted his party line that he went into denial.

It may not have ended his career but he almost disavows his own work in order to maintain the cognitive dissonance that allows him to remain employed (by Harvard) and in denial.
