8 Ways People of Color are Tokenized in Nonprofits
Helen Kim Ho

I am so tired of the racism lament. Diversity doesn’t work. To lazily paraphrase Marcus Garvey: People of non-Western European descent are always going to feel that they don’t have a seat at the Western European table, just as I don’t have a seat at the Japanese table, the Nigerian table or the Guatemalan table. But perhaps most importantly, I don’t believe that I should have a say in other people’s nations or cultures.

The myth that the US or Europe are for anyone’s taking must die. It was only ever wishful thinking that the US is some sort of ethnic melting pot or a nation of immigrants. It’s not.
