I’ve just started the mooc course What Future for Education? The first week videos have brought an interesting aspect to reflect on. How do people learn best? How was your experience learning? How do you learn? Sometimes we tend to follow either a mix of traditional and new models, but also somehow include those aspects that were positive in our learning. And this is wrong. I love learning, and I had good experiences at school. But some of my students come from a very different background and have had awful experiences. So I cannot assume that they will enjoy learning per se. The first weeks now, I devote myself to getting to know eachother, my students and me. We discuss about this, we talk about their expectations, about how and where they learn, and so forth. These videos have helped me to think about this more in depth. If I have 30 students in a class, I have 30 different worlds together. I think we have to get to know eachother better now. Share experiences, dreams, expectations, and cater for even more different learners. Wow! I have a long way to go now.
