Ten Things To Achieve In 2019

It’s Monday 7th January 2019 and it is safe to say that I feel like I have got my mojo back! In 2018 I was not as consistent with writing on this medium account as I would have liked. After taking some time out towards the end of last year, I am now getting back on track with (hopefully) regularly sharing my Ten Things, whether they are ramblings, musings, advice, learnings, feel good quotes or bite size chunks of information.

For those that do not know, or have not guessed, Ten Things is how I roll. 85% of things I do is in list form, it keeps me sane, it keeps me organised and lists look pretty!

As it is the beginning of January, I want to share with you the Ten Things I want to achieve this year — my goals, my aspirations, what I want to achieve from the year. It is typical at this time of year for there to be an emergence of two groups of people. The first, a collection of people to ‘poo poo’ new years resolutions and will assure you of the stats that more than half of all resolutions fail. The second group, who are on the ‘new year new me’ hype. Being part of either of those groups is totally fine, it is also fine to not be part of any. But for me, the change from ‘18 to ’19 has given me a completely fresh outlook, a fresh start and an altered mindset. It has restored my motivations and desires and given me a new lease of life ready to kickstart the year with a bang. For me, it is not a time for change, just a time for self-growth.

The list below will be something concrete that I can look back on in 12 months time and is a list of GOALS rather than resolutions. It is a way in which I can keep myself accountable and on track but not in an overwhelming way. This is why the short, snappy but not vague list format is so handy and perfect for sticking to and achieving your goals.

  1. Travel and match the same number of destinations as in 2018

I was lucky enough to do a lot of travelling last year and this is something I would love to continue. The world is such a big place with so many hidden gems to explore.

2. Explore London

I live in such a beautiful city and have never taken the opportunity to see more of it.

3. Read more books

I have to admit, this was a resolution for last year, that I did not quite stick to. So ,I am transferring it over to this year. I feel like I need to be in the right mindset to read, so that the information goes in but I am going to switch up from being on my phone before bed to doing some reading instead.

4. Taking photos

Capturing memories on every adventure and being able to look back on incredible times is lovely. I never used to be big on taking photos or having my photo taken but having that permanent image as a memory will last forever.

5. Spend less time on my phone

I am definitely guilty of spending too much time on my phone. My goal is to try and get my weekly ScreenTime down by a few hours. Swapping my phone for a book.

6. Find 10 minutes a day for Headspace

I have been meaning to try the app Headspace for some time so this is the time to do it. The positive impacts of mindfulness meditation have been proven to improve mental and physical health. I think it is also important to just sit back, reflect, relax and slow down.

7. Do one new thing I have never done before every month

I started this last year and I loved making sure that I every month ticked something off of my bucket list no matter how small it was. I enjoyed it so much, that I’m continuing this tradition. It is a great way for completing those things on a bucket list

8. 10,000 Steps

After receiving a FitBit for Christmas, I had no clue how many steps 10,000 was. I have made it a goal to get my 10,000 steps in daily and breathe in some fresh air. It is a great reminder to get up from working at my desk.

9. Be kinder to myself

This is something I think is very important. Often we are quick to acknowledge the achievement of others but slow to acknowledge our own. I am very familiar with my inner critic, that sometimes makes me and holds me back. It’s time for my inner critic to meet my inner advocate this year

10. Get another qualification

Not too sure where this one is going, but I have a few ideas… let’s see what happens…
