Curse of the pre-made foods

Times have changed.

It’s very hard to say if it’s thanks to today’s “healthier” foods, or just better healthcare that people live longer than in the last centuries. One thing is sure — there were not nearly as much obesity and other sicknesses than there is now, but if there were, there wouldnt’ve been very effective ways to cure them.

In the “good ol’ days”, there wasn’t much pre-made foods nor was there food preservatives. Either you made your bread from your own wheat and milked your own cows or you bought it at the village market where people sold their’s. Either way the food was fresh and not full of industrial poisons, unlike in today’s world.

Walk into a store and try to find a fresh alternative to every pre-packed food — not very easy. You can actually find more pre-made products than fresh ingredients to make them yourself. Soups can be found in ready microwawe bowls or as freezed cubes you just boil and voila! For example spinach soup. Try to find fresh spinach in your local food store or supermarket, not very easy task, but then try find frozen spinach in a bag full of preservatives. There is not enough fresh options for foods.

The newest studies show that the closer milk is to natural milk, the healthier it is. Well, good luck finding pure cow milk in a regular store. Food industry has made fat-free food a trend. People think they can lose weight with it (without training) and that it is a healthier option. On top of this trend, health organizations are paid to confirm this belief. Just the other day there were news about how Pepsi and Coca-Cola are paying the health organizations to not speak anything bad about their drinks and sugar.

If you don’t feel like preparing food yourself, what do you do? Very possible that you visit a nearby restaurant — most likely McDonald’s as it’s cheap and fast alternative to real restaurant food, and there’s one behind almost every corner. Fastfood is the king of unhealthy, pre-made food. Every component of your hamburger has travelled a long way into your local restaurant as big frozen lots and are kept in a freezer in the restaurant. When you order your burger and if they don’t have it ready, they’ll just throw the frozen steaks into a machine that warms them up in a blink of an eye and frozen fries into the deep frier for a minute. They have zero nutrition left after this — only the poison called preservatives, unhealthy fat and carbs.

There is more obesity in the world than ever before, while there’s still half of the globe starving. Now people are dying either being over- or underfeed.

Its quite hard to get healthy food these days, but not impossible. Favor the smaller food companies and buy as much organic food as you just can.

Every trend will eventually fade, but it requires for action.
