The Defamation of Healthcare

Too many in the healthcare industry are defensive — attempting to fight back at what they feel are injustices done to them. Margins are tighter and reimbursements are less — yet the demands are greater. Technology has created a scary future for many who still rely on faxes and pagers. Their reaction is to “circle the wagons” and defend the status quo.

But irony of it all is that the ones they are fighting are the exact ones who they should be embracing and empowering … us. Too many in the healthcare industry look at patient (excuse the word) participation as relinquishing power. So instead of empapthy and collaboration, we get hierarchical dictation (literally and figuratively). Fortunate for us, and not so much for the status quo … the defense will last only so long.
