Davidson, “The Classroom or the Worldwide Web?” from The Future of Learning Institutions in a Digital Age (8–25)

While reading this excerpt given in class, Davidson covers many different aspects of learning in a technological world and explains to us the ten personal learning principles. For this assignment, we were told to pick 5 of those learning principles that imply to the our own personal learning.

1. Self-Learning

  • Self-learning is developing quickly especially with educational systems working off of technology these days. I know for myself personally I have gone home after class and looked up something on Youtube to help me better understand a topic in class. But as Davidson states, getting different perspectives on material can also extend your learning in ways you would not have thought of.

2. Networked Learning

  • Networked learning is basically finding others with your interest in a certain topic and networking your ideas together. This is very useful for seeing others opinions or ideas on a topic in ways that you couldn’t see. This can go along with self-learning except you are focusing now on others close to you.

3. Lifelong Learning

  • Lifelong learning is an aspect that all people need in their life. It takes all these different aspects of learning and practices them daily for your whole entire life. It really connects all of these principles and the main idea that Davidson is trying to get across.

4. Flexible Scalability and Simulation

  • I feel like you need flexibility to live your life to the fullest. A lot of obstacles come up all the time even in learning situations. Being able to detect these obstacles and switching up your schedule can be a great skill for all things in life.
