PS VR

The Sony PlayStation VR has the potential to take VR into the mainstream. By “mainstream,” I mean the approximately 40 million households that already own a PlayStation 4. These are households that will not need to buy a powerful gaming PC. They do not need to find a space big enough to walk around. They do not need to troubleshoot odd hardware issues. They do not need to own a Samsung device.

It’ll probably be better than the Samsung Gear VR — and plus, with all of the Note 7 issues, Samsung has other things to worry about. It’ll be easier to use than the HTC Vive, because users won’t have to deal with the roomscale setup (even though roomscale VR is by far the best example of the medium). It’ll be as easy as the Oculus Rift setup, only without the gaming PC requirement.

What the PS VR lacks in capability, it should make up for in user adoption. It begins to bridge a wide gap between top-end devices like the HTC Vive and low-end devices like the Samsung Gear VR. I’m excited for the PS VR.
