The South was a slave economy. Slaves were forced to do work that would have been employment in a normal economy. Unemployment was built in before the war. Destroy the plantations, and now the white unemployment becomes plain. Southern powers that be could not end Reconstruction fast enough. Southern sympathy is a staple of the American diet. The arrogance of them is a product of the North not burning everything to the ground, executing all their leaders and enslaving plantation families. We carry the curse of Lincoln’s liberal ideals to this day, and Southern conservatism and entitlement is the result.
