The More Your Soul is Calling For
Initiate the Conversation
In a country that prides itself on its exceptionalism, why do so many live homogenized, unexceptional lives? The trade-off for devoting countless hours to mind-numbing activities in the singular pursuit of financial security is a life devoid of meaning.
Peeling back the layers of tribalism, a safety in numbers mindset, lies the hard truth: Most of us are not born leaders. We’re followers in search of a leader, someone to aspire to, emulate, to tell us what to do, who to be. Someone who will make us feel safe inside our own skin. Logic follows if we adhere to their road map, we’ll achieve financial success, we’ll lead a meaningful, purpose-filled life. We learn the hard way: That fairy tale doesn’t have a happy ending. We are not them. They are not us.
The shero’s journey does not begin by relinquishing her authority to another.
Seemingly unremarkable people lead remarkable, impactful lives simply by being their unique Self. Bridging the gap between what you want and the programming that says you can’t have it requires more than waiting for your attractor field to magnetize. Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps isn’t an option either — if you’ve ever tried, you know it’s impossible to lift yourself off the ground. To defy gravity, to become the next manifestation of your Self, you need to learn how to tune your energetic frequency to a higher level.
Your egoic mind wants to keep you safe. If you allow it to keep calling the shots, you’ll stick with the daily grind even if it kills you. Like your father did. And his father before that. Your ego will never willingly open the door to your soul in purgatory, pardon it or release it early for good behavior. It’s not going to cede control to your soul so it can illuminate your unique purpose.
The only blueprint you need to build your beautiful life is that which is held within your own soul. It knows why you are here. If you feel stuck, it knows how to extricate you. Your ego doubts. Your soul knows. It knows how to tear down walls and build the infrastructure for your dreams. In constant co-creation with the universe, your soul has the power to lift you up by your bootstraps and put you on your path.
If you’re not consciously regularly communicating with your soul, you’re keeping the most powerful aspect of yourself under lock and key. The magic of you being uniquely you unlocks worlds.
If you’re longing for something more, if you’re ready to pursue the purpose of your soul’s incarnation, the wise, loving, knowing part of yourself must initiate the conversation.
Do this first by creating a welcoming space for your soul. If you’re indoors light a candle. Burn some incense. If the natural world is an option, sit near the ocean or in your garden. For some, this conversation feels best when it’s facilitated through writing, painting or drawing. As the conversation unfolds, the answers flow through you onto the page.
Begin the conversation by grounding yourself. Settle down, close your eyes, and take three deep, long breaths through the nose from the belly, expanding through the chest and exhaling through the mouth. Sigh it out, and with it, exhale the limiting thoughts keeping you small. Release the scarcity mindset. Surrender to the unwinding and unraveling of old programming.
Welcome your soul with an invitation like this: It is safe to speak. It’s safe for you to tell me my purpose. I am ready to listen to whatever you have to say.
Get to know it by asking questions: What am I here to do? Where would you have me go to do this? What is the legacy I am here to build? Who are my collaborators? Who do I need to become to serve my highest purpose?
If this sounds like you’re speaking to yourself; you are!
Be Patient. Allow the answers to come. When they do, they might feel radical, overwhelming, impossible. They will also feel absolutely true at the deepest level of your knowing. And that will feel expansive, liberating.
Then ask: What would you have me do now, today, to make this a reality?
If the answers feel too enormous to contemplate, understand that is your uninvited ego casting aspersions. If you have the courage to ask your soul to share the big picture vision it holds for you, trust it to know the next right step.
Close your conversation with a prayer of gratitude for your soul speaking with you and trusting you to listen. Tell it you are open to receiving messages about your purpose. Let it know you’ll be checking in regularly. That you’ll be paying attention.
Thank it for reminding you that you are the divine in material form, a magical, creative being, powerful beyond measure.
Each of us is here for a purpose, one we inhabit with ease and grace when we align with the rhythm of our body and take action according to our authentic nature.
