November 1st Weekly Terracoin Update — Year in Review
Current TerracoinCore Version: 0.12.2.4 — Date Released: July 19th, 2018
On October 26th Terracoin had its 6-year blockchain anniversary! We are the 6th oldest active blockchain in existence!
I thought I would take this time to look back at the past year and The Terracoin Foundation’s accomplishments.
This will probably be the longest Weekly Update that I have ever written so…
Here I go!
A Bit of History
The Terracoin blockchain was created by an anonymous developer on October 26th, 2012, and The Terracoin Foundation took over on February 13th, 2016. We have been running the show since. Before October 26th, 2017 we added merge mining, dark gravity wave, decentralized governance and masternodes.
We are an active, growing team dedicated to improving Terracoin and helping the world!
Year in Review
The past year has seen some amazing development for Terracoin in all areas. Below are some highlights!
Since January 18th of 2018, TheSin and SixofFive have released five updates to the Terracoin core code! For the first time the Terracoin core releases included static builds and Travis compliance. To facilitate coding, the testing environment (testnet) has been reset and improved multiple times over the past year. These releases have steadily improved and added functionality to Terracoin. We were the first (and possibly only) coin to have in wallet decentralized governance proposal generation and proposal voting.
Besides code, infrastructure for a coin is one of the most import parts of a coin’s ecosystem. A coin cannot grow without also implementing a parallel infrastructure. On January 25th we released two major sites, Services(https://services.terracoin.io/) and Insight(https://insight.terracoin.io/). Services allows you to monitor your masternodes and decentralized governance items. Insight is a robust block explorer. Both Services and Insight have a built in API, so anyone can pull information directly to their own platform.
On March 29th TheSin released Overview(https://overview.terracoin.io/). Overview gives a total, well, overview of Terracoin’s masternode network! It is a great tool to look at actual live data. I recommend checking it out!
Back in May we got our DUNS number so we could get apps added to Apple App Store and because of that in June we released a lightweight wallet called TRCpay (https://terracoin.io/trcpay/) for iOS, macOS, Android, Windows, and Linux.
Most recently we released a new and improved Richlist! (https://masternode.terracoin.io/top200.html)
Last year we also released an ever-growing Wiki(https://wiki.terracoin.io/). If you want to learn more about Terracoin this is the place to go! I recommend the white paper (https://wiki.terracoin.io/view/Whitepaper) first!
In the past year we also have gotten on quite a few sites, such as the decentralized exchanges Blocknet (https://www.blocknet.co/), and Bisq (https://bisq.network/), and the hardware wallet Trezor (https://trezor.io/).
Abettorpin also set up a Zazzle (https://www.zazzle.com/terracoinshop) store for us, so if you want to buy some TRC swag, that is the place to do it.
At the beginning of this year we decided to centralize our forums, so we set up our Mattermost (https://mattermost.terracoin.io/) server and server bridge between Telegram, Slack and Discord. This way no matter what forum you are on, we will get the message on Mattermost.
And lastly if you are into paper we set up two things for everyone. One is a Terracoin Foundation PO Box (The Terracoin Foundation, PO Box 86154, Portland OR, 97286) so people can send us snail mail letters, and the other is a paper wallet! (https://walletgenerator.net/?currency=Terracoin)
One of the things we wanted to change last year was our approach to marketing and we really hit the ground running!
Thanks to Tygi and TheSin we did a complete refresh of the website (https://terracoin.io/), we joined the BetweenBlocks (https://betweenblocks.org/topic/58/ann-trc-terracoin-established-2012-decentralized-governance-masternodes-fair-launch-helping-the-world) forum, we got added to Cheddur (https://www.cheddur.com/coins/terracoin) and we have really upped our game when it comes to videos (https://www.youtube.com/terracoin).
We have become a Premium Backer on Masternode Buzz (https://masternode.buzz/) which gets the word out to masternode holders!
xtr750 of Blockchain Relations has also successfully used the decentralized governance system and his own network to get a ton of press releases released (https://wiki.terracoin.io/view/Links).
xtr750 has also hosted our virtual meet ups (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOUv8X93wXhm49I-ItoQxTKb72jOgi6XB)! These are meet ups that anyone in the world can join virtually and we field their questions. We have had two of those and it really helps the community and possible community members have a chance to join the TRC conversation.
Our first in real life meetup happened on July 13th and it was a blast to meet TheSin, and Abettorpin!
Lastly for marketing I have done two interviews. One was just the other day and was with StakeandNodes (https://soundcloud.com/stakeandnodes/episode-16-discussion-with-terracoin) and the other one was with xtr750 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNKDG0T-sXU&t=6s)
All these items help expand and increase our marketing impact, and our approachability!
Another thing that we decided last year was to improve our transparency. We know that regulations will be inevitable in the future, so we wanted to make sure that everything we did was open and completely transparent. Last year on our blockchain birthdate we implemented a Public Ledger (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10Yceckmx-ZAf3AKQyYgLb1fi3Uud8KpBZDVuLyKCfX4/edit?usp=sharing) and a live Roadmap (https://trello.com/b/3RJU8m6t/terracoin).
When the regulations do come down we will be ready to openly work with regulators!
One of the main goals for The Terracoin Foundation is to not only improve Terracoin, but to also improve the world. We have built that into our whole model by setting up 18 donation masternodes which will be used to help people around the world once TRC gets to $1.
In the mean time JacobKerr set up a Kiva team (https://www.kiva.org/team/terracoin)and we have funded 171 micro loans around the world! This is true commitment from community members to help people all over the world!
Thanks for the support and if you are interested in helping people through Kiva please join our team!
Now that you have spent all that time looking at the major progress we have made in the last year, I can start talking about the future!
The future of Terracoin is brighter then I have ever seen it! We now have the massive infrastructure needed to move forward. This infrastructure is better than 99% of all coins out there.
Having these projects in our rear-view mirror means that we can start innovating like never before!
Our current main goals are to improve usability by integrating with as many sites as possible. Some of these sites require extensive code work, and others just require clear and ethical leadership to join. We have the skills and the ethics for both types of sites, so look forward to more integrations soon!
We plan to keep updating the core code to include both Dash’s and Bitcoin’s improvements, but we will also be adding our own constant innovations!
But the real goal for the next year is to make sure the community’s voice is heard! We need everyone who has something they want or need help with to join our Mattermost (https://mattermost.terracoin.io/) server and post what they want the future of Terracoin to become!
Lastly, we plan to continue growing our team. In fact, Walkjivefly joined our team last week! Welcome! His title is Jack of All Trades, Master of None!
Now that I have written the longest weekly update I have ever written, I just wanted to remind everyone to check the link list (https://wiki.terracoin.io/view/Links) on our Wiki because it has a ton of links to everything I talked about here and more.
One month ago, we were at 0.00001650 BTC (.1087 USD) and today we are at 0.00000599 BTC (.0378 USD).
