Gartner defines CWPP (Cloud Workload Protection Platform) as:

CWPPs are workload-centric security products that protect server workloads in hybrid, multicloud data center environments. CWPPs provide consistent visibility and control for physical machines, virtual machines (VMs), containers and serverless workloads, regardless of location. CWPP offerings protect workloads using a combination of system integrity protection, application control, behavioral monitoring, intrusion prevention and optional anti-malware protection at runtime. CWPP offerings should also include scanning for workload risk proactively in the development pipeline.

What is a Cloud Workload Protection Platform?

A cloud workload protection platform (CWPP) is a security solution that helps protect an organization’s data and applications from threats that exist both inside and outside the corporate network. By using a CWPP, organizations can take advantage of the many benefits of cloud computing while still maintaining a high level of security.

CWPPs typically offer a number of features, including:

- Firewall: A firewall is a CWPP’s first line of defense against external threats. It filters incoming traffic and blocks any traffic that is not explicitly allowed.

- Intrusion detection and prevention: An intrusion detection and prevention system (IDS/IPS) monitors traffic for signs of malicious activity and blocks suspicious traffic.

- Data loss prevention: Data loss prevention (DLP) tools help prevent sensitive data from being leaked outside the corporate network.

- malware protection: Malware protection tools scan files and emails for malware and quarantine or delete any infected files.

Benefits of using a CWPP

There are many benefits to using a CWPP, including:

- Improved security: CWPPs offer a high level of security by providing multiple layers of protection.

- Cost savings: CWPPs can help organizations save money by consolidating security solutions and reducing the need for on-premises hardware.

- Increased flexibility: CWPPs offer organizations the flexibility to scale their security solution up or down as needed.

- Enhanced visibility: CWPPs give organizations visibility into their cloud environment and the ability to monitor for threats.

- simplified management: CWPPs can help simplify security management by providing a single platform for managing multiple security solutions.

Why use a CWPP?

Organizations should consider using a CWPP if they want to take advantage of the many benefits of cloud computing while still maintaining a high level of security. CWPPs offer a comprehensive security solution that can be scaled to meet the needs of any organization.
