If you employ a website, than you need to secure and harden it.

Websites are hacked on a daily basis. The sheer amount of malware, hackers and bots that attack websites are astronomical.

Popular platforms such as Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress each iterate thru versions improving their stack using best practices but there are things you can do to help secure and harden your installations.

In this article I want to go thru several easy ways in which you can secure and harden your wordpress installation today.

1. Review your Plugins

I have worked on wordpress sites that have been hacked and 80% of the time it is because a service provider or developer installed a plugin 5 years ago and have not updated it.

Old plugins represent a clear risk, exposing your site to unnecessary hack attempts. Update the plugins, remove any you are not using. It will make your site more secure, may add new features and will more than likely increase performance.

2. Update Wordpress

Many, many sites just stay with an old, old installation of wordpress. Maybe cause you are afraid of breaking your site or maybe cause you are unsure of what feature changes will occur within the core wordpress installation. At some point you will need to…
