Can Big Blue Go Wrong With The #4 Pick?

There has been a lot of speculation as to when sports will finally return. You can also relate this to Dave Gettleman and The New York Giants with that number 4 pick. With less then 1 month until the draft, we as Giant fans, still do not know what they are going to do with that pick.

The Giants have had major issues for several years now, specifically, with their Offensive line and their overall defense. The potential draft picks that we’ve been hearing for some time now are Isaiah Simmons, Tristan Wirfs, and Mekhi Becton. But I must ask, can the Giants actually go wrong with this pick?

A team that just drafted their next franchise QB, preceded by the pick of Saquon Barkley, you would think the Giants go Offensive Tackle with that pick, right?

However, as a team that has also been in desperate need of defensive play makers for sometime, look no further then Simmons. At one point, the Clemson star was asked the question, ‘what position do you play?’ Simmons replied with one powerful word. “Defense”.

If we remember first year head coach Joe Judge’s interview at the combine, he repeated the word ‘versatility’, whether that is within the roster or within their schemes. It’s pretty clear, Joe Judge wants versatility….and Isaiah Simmons personifies that.

He was Clemson’s do it all defender, playing CB, bringing a pass rush, covering tight ends, playing safety, playing in the box, which paints the picture of the versatility Simmons brings. He led the Tigers in tackles with 107, 16 tackles for loss, and eight sacks, as a “Linebacker”.

Now, the other option is the obvious need for an OT. When you consider the Giants’ situation, where you have a young QB and RB you just drafted in back-to-back years, protection is vital and could be the ultimate difference for the Giants competing for championships, or competing for top 5 picks year in the season ahead.

Plain and simple the Giants most certainly could use another lineman to protect their franchise QB and RB.

The growth, health, and development of Daniel Jones should be most important thing for Big Blue, but when you have had as bad a defense as The GMen have had, and are in such obvious need for play makers, then Simmons is way too hard to pass up for the Giants at that number 4 pick.

All in all, New York does have major needs on both sides of the ball, that’s why no matter what they do at #4, they really cannot go wrong with it. If they trade back, then, they pick up assets. If they take Simmons, then you add the most versatile player in this draft and add an immediate play maker to an extremely young defense. And if they take an OT, well that will ultimately help the growth and development of Daniel Jones.

So Giants fans who are freaking out about this draft, I say one thing. Don’t, because no matter what they do with that pick it will only help and improve Big Blue.
