Dear Marvel,

I have a few questions…

How can you even insinuate misappropriation, from the very culture that you misappropriated?

How can you willingly take Billions from the Black Community, yet oppose a group who’s focus is on eradicating economic oppression, and bringing Billions to the Black Community?

Are you currently paying royalties to women named “Wanda” or to the town of Wacounda, Illinois? You know…the one that was formally established in 1849 with the exact same pronunciation. In lieu of this talk of possible “legal” action, we need answers.

See, I didn’t sign up for “The Black Coin Group” because of some mythical place. I signed up and stayed because I have witnessed the lives of countless people being positively impacted in real life. I’ve watched this group almalgate in ways you can’t imagine. I’ve witnessed displays of love, unity, and togetherness that would leave you speechless. Whether it be helping people start businesses, get jobs, endure hardships, successfully battle big bully corporations, raise funds to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, extraordinary education, incredible humor, speaking life into each other, edification at it’s apogee, helping people dealing with personal tragedy, celebrating new life, and honoring those no longer with us. This is what this group represents. We are still a rose by any other other name…but Wacoinda is our name.

Marvel, you now stand at a great crossroads. Have been highlighting Black culture, or simply highjacking Black culture? Your movies have been played a lot, but that movie has been played much more often. Time will either promote or expose you. Your actions going forward will reveal your true intentions.

I propose that you work with us. Wakandacon used our currency as it’s official currency for their event. Why not connect with us to utilize our currency for some Marvel related themes? Especially for Black Panther. It will show that Marvel not only continues to be on the cutting edge of innovation, but also truly cares about a community that has given Marvel so much.

I look forward to watching your next move.

Sincerely,

Devin Mickens
