Time has no mercy. It does not care who you are, who you’re wearing, who you’re with, how many people you’re with, etc… It is something we all have in common. We all lack it. We all want more of it. We all watch it, often times with agitation as well as anticipation. As I’ve become older, time has become more prevalent. I think when you start to feel this way, you realize how little of the world you have seen and how much you want to travel. Now more than ever.
As the tech world is booming, the advent of remote work is here. This is my opportunity! This is my one way ticket to travel the world and still earn a living. I could continue on the 9 to 6 path and wait to take two weeks off each year. A whole two weeks! The sad part is that even though the average American is given a whopping two weeks off, he/she will only take the 10 rather than the 14 days. I could go on this path but my travels will always feel rushed, especially if I’m traveling overseas. I won’t feel like I saw, ate, touched, smelled, etc… enough of a country.
The beauty of a remote job is that you’re not beholden to one place. You can become a nomad if you wish, and just move onward as you please. You are free from the confines of a zip code, traffic, vehicle expenses, a cubicle, office politics, and unnecessary meetings. You can trade all that in for comfort, freedom, autonomy, money and time savings, and exploration. I crave the remote work life, because only then can I truly travel. I feel if I can just see more of the world, then my life can be even more enriched with knowledge and understanding.
Figure out a way to travel more. You’ll thank yourself for it.
