Thank You Ben. I constructively disagree.

The way You present Your story here, feeds outdated approaches to self-improvement.
From my perspective, this has overcome.

/context

Many people got mentally ill — “Burn-out-syndrom”- by wanting to improve, but beeing restricted within the limits of their beliefs and their surrounding environment.

The key is to identify the right situation to place a suitable pattern of behaviour.

If You are integrated in a highly structured work process, it is not suitable to question every work-item as it is the first. Just do as You are trained and learned from practice. Take professional pilots for example.

But once, You are in the position where the amount of Uncertainty rises to a level that is worth to take a step back and take Your time to reflect and discuss whether there is some need for change.
You determine that on the red path.

Once, You have certainty about where to aim to, You can return to perform this as a low-brainer.

/background

It is important to distinguish when to do what.
Most of our energy is needed to keep up body temperature.
2nd most energy consumer is active mindwork (aka “thinking”).
From evolutionary origins we are conditioned to save energy.
So, it is a natural behaviour to avoid movement and tending to low-brain idle mode.

/how to improve?

You just need to establish Your personal wake up notifier to switch from passive tasking down to active designing leadership-mode.

To improve communication about where You are and what action pattern is needed, I codified the up2U protocol.

/request for resonance

I ask You for three quick actions, which contain small effort on Your side and great benefit for all — You, future readers and me for understanding and improving what matters most.
