Onwards and Upwards
Today I made an important announcement to our team, which I believe is the right decision to bring our Company into the future. I have decided to promote Andrew Sider to Chief Executive Officer of VarageSale, and to dedicate myself to building our innovative product as Chief Product Officer.
Tami and I founded VarageSale almost 5 years ago. We always took pride in being close to our members and to deliver outstanding value to them. Over the years, we’ve grown rapidly through word of mouth, maintained an App Store rating of at least 4.5 and half of our mobile users come back every single day. This speaks volume about the passion around VarageSale and our mission. It’s truly inspiring to be building something that makes such a difference in people’s lives. We’re very fortunate.
As Founders, product vision is not something you can outsource. As we’ll be making significant investments in our product over the next 24 months, it was important for us to put everything in place to make our vision a reality. There’s still so much we want to accomplish, and I am thrilled to be once again at the helm of what I consider one of the most important aspect of our Company, the product.
As for Andrew, we couldn’t think of a better guy to run the show. Andrew was part of the founding team at BandPage, which was recently acquired by YouTube. He also co-founded Bunch, which we acquired just over 2 years ago. He’s got a track record of success, fantastic managerial skills and the inspiring and genuine personality you need to run a business. He’s also the one guy who has the best understanding of our members, our vision and our mission. We sincerely believe he’s the best person to take us to the next level. (he also went to fancy schools and did management consulting, but we won’t hold that against him).
Few people know this, but interestingly enough, Andrew offered me the CTO position for his startup Bunch when they were starting out. I ultimately had to turn down the role because I was starting this little thing called VarageSale at the time, and I had a feeling it could become something. (Andrew is user #419). I always knew I wanted to work with Andrew and to make this happen, we acquired Bunch. I’m now delighted to make him CEO. Full circle.
The Board has got to know Andrew very well over the last couple of years and has therefore been very supportive of this decision.
Tami and I remain committed to our mission of making VarageSale the most family-friendly platform to buy and sell locally. Our promise to our members is simple: we will continue delivering an experience that lives up to our higher mom’s standards. Y’all deserve the best.
