Upgrading to MacOS Sierra will break your SSH keys and lock you out of your own servers.

Before killing your current key, you should make sure that it is, in fact, a 1024 bit key. To double check, you can run:

ssh-keygen -l -f ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

This command will output how many bits your key is. If you have 2048, then no need to worry or create a new key.
