In all fairness to Clement, he has reason to believe the SC would be partisan enough to allow the wait. The entire premise of Bush V Gore was the SupreC ordered the ballot counting to be halted, then gave the election to Bush because the ballots couldn’t be done quickly enough to reach and arbitrary elector reporting deadline.
