I think miniatures like Wet Nurse and Forge God aren’t meant to be erotic, they are meant to represent humans most base sexuality and then twist it into something monstrous, therefore making if much more horrific than any other standard monster. Alien(s) did the exact same thing. It’s not erotic, it’s not meant to sensually stimulate or anything like that. It is psycho-sexual. It is human anatomy, it’s body horror. Wet Nurse doesn’t turn me on, it freaks me out! I don’t want to grope Frogdog, I want to run away! This argument can be made for almost ANY of the non-pinup minis/character designs in the KD universe, ignoring White Speakers which are more femme fatale than fap-bait (though I wouldn’t argue against the two being mutual, but nobody slams Austin Powers for it, why KD:M?).
Pinups are the only outlier here because… well because sex sells. Pinups are produced to fund the sustainability and expansion of the game and the KD universe. They weren’t made so you could pretend your settlement is having an orgy… they are “erotic” but they don’t add eroticism to the game because they are not meant to be part of the game. They are collectors pieces for hobbyists.
Anyway, I read the article from top to bottom and it was a pretty good read (only bit that irked me was where you said the minis HAD to be puttied and painted — not true!). I think the you did a lot of good research and took great care to remain somewhat neutral which is what a good article should do. Nothing against the you or the article but I still think KD and KD:M have a bad stigma around it. Has no one, no one at all ever heard of body horror?
