Do You Have What It Takes To Land One of The Hottest Jobs in Town?

Hailed by Forbes, data scientists are now one of the “sexiest jobs of the 21st century”. These are the folks who wrangle big data to tell Amazon how to find their most profitable customers, or who help American Airlines avoid wasting 10 extra minutes on the ground per flight.

But these days, to land this plum job, you can’t just be a great statistician or code jockey.

So….Have you got what it takes?

Are you:

Part Billy Beane?

The man behind the movie MoneyBall was able to pick out the statistics that mattered to his team — not the ones other teams were using.

Part Consigliere?

Like Tom Hagen in the Godfather, you need to be a trusted adviser who can give valuable advice to the company about where you should focus your data efforts. (No severed horse heads should be required, however.)

Part Bill Gates?

While coding isn’t the only skill needed for data analysts, it’s a big one. You can’t be calling up IT every time you need a data run. Knowledge of programming R and Python are a must.

Part Peggy Olson? Once you have a data-driven plan, you need to be able to communicate the numbers understandably, and with credibility, to your bosses, to get them on board. Communicating complex data and statistical analysis is a highly overlooked skill — but employers say you must be able to channel your inner Peggy Olson from Mad Men!

Almost there, but not quite?
