SUNDAY SERMON; The Lousy believer

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
 They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. (PSALM 14:1)

On the surface it looks like the above text is a killer punch against atheism, except it is actually a TKO against the lousy believer.

God according to theologians is;

Omnipresent, i.e. God is everywhere.

Omniscient, i.e. God knows everything.

Omnipotent, i.e. God is all powerful.

The one who truly believes in God has affirmed these attributes of God in his/ her heart. And there is no one better to explain what that actually means than the one who eventually became God.

Jesus said; For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come — sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.” (Mark 7:21–23).

If a surveillance camera is what put you on your toes, your heart is not right with the omnipresent. If a password is what shields you from the ravages of infidelity in your relationship, your heart is not right with the omniscient. If you always grovel in your weakness, your heart is not right with the omnipotent.

Maybe you actually don’t believe in God or perhaps God does not have the “Omni” attributes.

I will give Psalm 14:1 a different rendition; The wise has said in his heart, “There is God” They are not corrupt, their deeds are decent; they always strive to do good.

”It isn’t obvious what belief means. People think that what they believe is what they say they believe. I don’t believe that. I believe that what people believe is what they act out”- Jordan B Peterson.
