Our response
The Coalition of State Federations, in response to the Executive Board’s statement and in anticipation of Mikaela Guido’s resignation, released the following —
First and foremost, we want to thank our friend Matthew Nowling for his courage in speaking truth — a truth that so many other POC have experienced as members of the College Democrats of America (CDA). Since the open letter was released, so many college Democrats from across the country have come forward to share their truths about how they were treated in the national organization. We will continue to hold people accountable for their abhorrent actions.
Secondly, we thank each of the forty-two federations of CDA, and the individual chapters and organizations, who signed the open letter and spoke out in support of it. This collective action proves that real change starts from the bottom up, never the top down.
While the Executive Board has agreed to our demands, we recognize that in the coming weeks, until the election of new officers, we all must hold the remaining national leadership accountable and ensure they follow through with their commitments. And, beyond the upcoming CDA elections, we all are committed to ensuring that this organization changes and that this never happens again. It starts with us, here and now.
