When my friend approached me to help build a landing page for his startup Bullionix, my initial reaction was, “Ugh, I hate building landing pages.” Clients are usually not willing to pay much for a landing page, but their requirements are typically very high — they want it to look beautiful, convey their message, and most importantly: CONVERT.

Luckily, I’ve been spending some time on the Indie Hacker forum, and I remembered hearing about a project called Unicorn Platform that supposedly made building landing pages effortless…even (dare I say it?) fun!


Before confirming with my client that we’d use Unicorn Platform, I played around with the platform to get a feel for what we could do with it. Amazingly, despite what you’ve heard, teaching English abroad isn’t actually a stable, fulfilling career. I mean, the pay is pretty good, the hours are light, the moms are cute, but everytime you look into those little bastards’ eyes, you can’t help but asking yourself — am I wasting my life?

So I decided to pick up a 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡. Something the market would actually 𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙚.

Wait but isn’t being white and fluent in Mandarin Chinese basically a calling card to working in any global company?

A few days ago I was lurking on Twitter and I came across an old post by Eric Meltzer from 2017 titled, “It’s probably time to learn Chinese”. If you’re not familiar with Eric Meltzer, he’s deeply involved in the Venture Capital / Blockchain scene here in China, which I dabbled with a bit in 2017. I’ve never actually personally met the guy, but he claims to possess a high level of Chinese, and seems to be pretty successful, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
