For instance, I recently sent a lawyer an email and when we chatted on the phone, he said “ I googled your name and I saw your website…”. It’s not about what I did in the last 10 years, or about what I currently do, but rather about who I am and how I think.

This is awesome Ryan! I think one of the key things to note is that the web “12-column-grid” or others like it, were developed and are primarily for creating responsive websites easily, rather than for designers to create their good looking designs. But we need both! We need our functional grid to ease development but we also need our “designer grid” — a system that guides us to a more objectively good design.
