Player Ratings: Liverpool (3) vs. Manchester City (0)

Liverpool ruthless. Manchester City abject. A polar opposite from their performances on Sunday. Could this be the end of the Sky Blue’s title race? A strong foundation to build on for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds?

Simon Mignolet | 6 Never really tested. Clean sheet? Sound.

Jon Flanagan | 7 His first start in the Premier League in over a year, and boy are the Liverpool faithful glad he’s back. His fitness levels showed early on, but the local lad grew into the game very well. Sent Sterling to the bench with that tackle. Keeps his head down and does his job well.

Kolo Toure | 6.5 Has an absolutely imperative recovery against Agüero with a burst of pace from his days at Arsenal. Good organization of the back line — calm and composed. Does the business. 100 minutes on Sunday didn’t seem to matter.

Dejan Lovren | 6.5 Has had some rough times in red, but showed promise in his return to the side. A strong, front-foot centerback performance from the Croatian.

Nathaniel Clyne | 6 Was being a little bit overwhelmed in the first 15 from the overlaps of Zabaleta and Navas, but recovered well. Always avalible for an outball on the left. It’s night and day when you compare him with Moreno, who was watching from the sidelines.

Emre Can | 8 Sometimes you forget how good Emre can be. An absolute rock in midfield, the young German wasn’t afraid of bullying Manchester City, and also showed great finesse and passing range. More of those turns, ya big lad.

Jordan Henderson | 6.5 His injury doesn’t seem to be healing quick enough, but he carried on as Jordan Henderson always does. Passes were a bit forced in the first half, but he was strong in the tackle and reads the game very well. Takes control in the second half, sees out the result.

James Milner | 8 You know what you’re gonna get from James everytime he steps foot onto the pitch. Sometimes you get that bonus. Today you got two.

Adam Lallana | (9.949) By and large his best performance in a Liverpool shirt. Pressing, tackling, keeping possession, creating chances and space for other players. An absolute joy to watch at his best. The weirdest goal I’ve probably ever seen. Did it actually go in? Cracking finish, though. MoTM.

Roberto Firmino | 8 One of the most unorthodox footballers in the Premier League right now. Sometimes he does your head in with being offside, but showed today why Liverpool forked up the cash. Confidence does wonders for a player. Great finish too.

Divock Origi | 6 Although he wasn’t the center of attention, Divock provided a real presence up front, making good runs into the channel and giving those in blue something to think about. His hold up play is massive; he’s a big kid, but god is he quick.

Christian Benteke | 4 Looks headed for the exit door.

Joe Allen | 10 Facial hair game on fleek, wee Joe.

Jordon Ibe | N/A

Manchester City

Joe Hart | 3 Should do better for the first goal. Let me rephrase that. Should do A LOT better for the first goal. If that was Mignolet, it would be November 1917 all over again. Can’t do much for the other two. Great reaction save from Milner’s bullet of a strike.

Pablo Zabaleta | 5 One of my favorite defenders in the Premier League, does all the simple things correctly. Unfortunately, he can’t defend an entire team by himself.

Vincent Kompany | 5 Never made any mistakes, but didn’t keep his team in order. Makes you wonder if the team just wasn’t up for it?

Nicolás Otamendi | 4 Struggled with the pressing of Origi and Firmino. Very inconsistent first season for the in Manchester for the Argentine.

Gael Clichy | 4.5 Offered a good outlet on the left but was repelled by Milner and Henderson all game.

Fernando | 4 An apathetic performance from the Brazilian. Looked a bit hungover from the weekend. Had a cute dummy in the first half but was put under pressure the entire game.

Fernandinho | 5 The other half of the South-American midfield duo didn’t fair much better. Had a few busting runs into space but was out of position too many times in the first half. Never was able to hold onto the ball for more than a fleeting moment. Looked a bit leggy.

Jesus Navas | 4.5 Gave Clyne and the Liverpool defense something to think about in the first half, but faded quickly.

Raheem Sterling | 0 Didn’t take his Anfield return all that well. See ya next season, Raheem. Still one of the brightest young talents in world football. Can’t grow a beard to save his life.

David Silva | 2 Silva is up there with the best, but this had to be one of his worst performances in years. Was bullied off the ball countless times and could never get into a rhythm.

Sergio Agüero | 3 Never received enough service. Still scares you shitless when he’s got the ball around the box.

Wilfried Bony | 2 Didn’t notice he was on until he took that audacious attempt from 35. Come on Wilfried Bony, scores a go — .

Kelechi Iheanacho | 2 Almost as invisible as Raheem.

Aleksander Kolarov | 4 Gave Liverpool the ball back. Great throw.
